The FOXBORO FCP280 is a field-installed, distributed, and optionally fault-tolerant controller module. Its main technical specifications include:
- Control and processing capabilities: Works with connected FOXBOro DCS Field Bus Modules (FBM) to perform regulation, logic, timing, and sequence control. It also conducts data acquisition, alarm detection, and notification.
- Module support: Can support up to 128 Compact or Standard 200 series FBMs, or a combination of up to 128 100 series and 200 series FBMs (with no more than 64 100 series FBMs allowed on each field bus and no more than 64 100 series FBMs on each PIO bus/substrate port). It supports extended field buses without the need for a field bus expansion module.
- Self-hosting mode: Allows the FCP280 to start itself using an effective control database even without a host workstation.
- Fault-tolerant operation: Offers unique patented fault-tolerant operation using two control modules, significantly enhancing reliability compared to other process controllers.
- Online image upgrade: Provides online image upgrade (OLUG) for fault-tolerant FCP280 and enhanced online image upgrade (EOLUG) during process runtime to prevent any significant impact on local control processes.
- CP overload protection: Notifies the operator when the FCP280 performance reaches its limit.
- Display and indicators: Has a liquid crystal display (LCD) to show letter bugs as well as real-time role and status, and LED working indicators to show the module status and field bus communication.
- Communication interface: Connects to the FOXBOro DCS control network via standard optical fiber or 100Mbps copper cable.
- Housing and environment: Encased in a rugged die-cast aluminum enclosure, it can be installed in non-ventilated field cabinets and is suitable for use in a G3 harsh environment.
- Field bus port support: Each field bus port on the standard FCP280 baseplate supports dedicated 2Mbps or 268kbps HDLC field bus ports.
- Control algorithm and application: Uses versatile control algorithms and various FBMs to provide control capabilities for various process applications. It also supports time synchronization using an optional external time from GPS satellites.
- Configuration: Uses soft letter blocks that can be configured via the buttons on the FCP280 panel.
- Optional dual-cable substrate: Allows the use of a separate cable for each “a” and “b” bus.
It should be noted that specific technical details may vary depending on the actual model and configuration. For more accurate and detailed information, it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact the manufacturer directly.
