The ABB CBX-8R8 is a controller for smart building and energy management applications.
Design purpose: Mainly used in various energy management applications, it can realize the intelligent control of HVAC equipment (such as central air conditioning system, boiler, refrigerator, cooling tower, water pump system, air handling unit, etc.) and electrical system (such as lighting control, variable frequency drive, metering device, etc.).
Communication capability: As a freely programmable, BTL-certified BACnet Advanced Application Controller (B-AAC), it can communicate over the RS-485 LAN via BACnet MS/TP and supports the Modbus RTU device communication protocol. Devices such as motor drivers, meters, and other sensors can be integrated into the control strategy.
Input/Output configuration: There are 8 universal inputs with relays (Uniput) and 8 universal inputs. The CBX-8R8-H model also features a supervised manual override of the Uniput via a local manual switch and potentiometer.
Scalability: The CBX series’ 16 on-board input/output points can be expanded with the FLX Series field-level expansion module up to 64 points. FLX expansion modules include FLX-8R8, FLX-8R8-H, FLX-4R4, FLX-4R4-H, and FLX-16DI. These expansion modules quickly and easily replace or extend input/output points, and can be extended up to 100 feet (30 meters) from the CBX controller using FLX-RMC cables if necessary. In addition, DIP switch addressing on FLX modules reduces field pre-configuration time for expansion modules, reduces field installation time and difficulty, simplifies setup and system inspection processes, and reduces the skill level required for hardware upgrades or extensions.
