It was founded in Gronau, Germany in 1970. Its predecessor was the Dutch Signaalapparaten B.V., which was a factory under the European Philips Group at that time. In 1992, it became independent as epro Electronic Systems GmbH. In 1994, it acquired the Turbine Monitoring and Protection Division of Philips, and in 1995, it merged with the Rotating Machinery Protection Department of AEG. In 1997 and 1998, it launched the Rotating Machinery Monitoring System MMS6000.
